MOST ASKED QUESTIONS

Q - CAN EXTENSIONS CAUSE DAMAGE?

A-  There is two answers for this questions, Yes and No. Hair extensions should not damage your hair if they are fitted professionally and are cared for well. In the past, hair extensions did have a rather bad reputation, simply due to the lack of options available.  Nowadays, there are so many hair extension alternatives which are kind to the hair, causing absolutely little to damage. When considering hair extensions, it is also essential to ensure that you only book in with a reputable trained professional who will go over the do's and don't with extensions. Its important to understand that all extensions have the potential to cause damage and what you do at home after install is very important to ensure no damage is caused. We will always provide you with aftercare which we ask that you follow after your appointment.

Q - WHY ARE MY EXTENSIONS SHEDDING?

A-  Just like your natural hair, extensions will shed. Shedding is a common occurrence with hair extensions and because they are made of human hair, you can expect some shedding throughout their lifespan. As you brush and style your extensions fall-out may occur so don't be surprised or worried when this happens as it is very normal for extensions to shed. Keeping your hair extensions de-tangled is crucial when looking after them. As long as you have a regular de-tangling regimen this will stop your hair extensions from tangling and then shedding in an attempt to get rid of the tangles. It’s important to deal with tangled hair extensions as soon as possible because tangled hair becomes matted hair which is even harder to resolve. Its important to make sure you are using professional use products and a leave in to help with tangles and knots.

Q - CAN I SLEEP WITH WET HAIR?

A- It is important that you never to sleep with wet or damp hair while wearing hair extensions. Not only will it cause tangling and matting from the root, but also increase the likelihood of damage to natural hair. Your hair is at its weakest whilst wet, meaning that it can become brittle during the night as you toss and turn. Always give yourself a little extra time to thoroughly dry your hair before heading off to bed.

Q - CAN BRUSHING CAUSE DAMAGE TO MY HAIR OR THE EXTENSIONS?

A- One of the biggest culprits for causing damage is failing to brush with care. Your extensions are fitted to your natural hair from the roots, meaning that pulling and tugging will not only hurt, but also reduce the lifespan of extensions. Even on the busiest of mornings, take time to gently brush through your hair + extensions, starting from the bottom and working your way up. I would invest in a good leave in treatment *we recommend the miracle spray by Eleven.

Q - HOW LONG DO THE EXTENSIONS LAST?

A- As your hair grows from the root, so do your extensions. As the root grows down the extensions begin to lower. if you choose a weft or tapes the extensions have to be moved up, or "tightened" every 6-8 weeks. Some can go longer, but this is the typical time period. Letting the extensions go for too long without being moved up, will cause breakage and discomfort. Kbonds will last 3-6 months depending on how fast your hair grows. Kbonds are not reusable so after their lifespan of 3-6 months they will need to be removed by a professional and a new set installed.

Q - WILL THE EXTENSIONS BLEND WITH MY HAIR?

A- We have over 30+ shades available in the salon. Additionally custom coloring is available and we have specific packages for this. 90% of our clients want to change the colour of their hair or we need to colour the clients hair to match the extensions. In order to determine the best match for your hair, an extension consultation will have to take place first. At the consult we can discuss what your hair goals are and the options we have to achieve them.

Q - IS IT HARD TO STYLE HAIR EXTENSIONS?

A- Not at all!! Extensions are very easily manageable when it comes to styling. It may take a little longer to curl or wave the hair, as there is now more of it otherwise, it is just like styling your real hair and be honest the curls or waves will most likely last longer now that you have extensions YAY!

Q - WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE FOR EXTENSIONS

A- To get the most out of your extensions and keep them healthy as can be, here are a few rules to follow including

  • Use only sulfate-free and paraben-free products and Salon Grade Products that will help to keep your hair from tangling or drying out

  • Braid your hair before sleeping or bed.

  • Sleep on a silk pillow.

  • Brush regularly (while brushing, hold the base of the scalp where the extensions adhere to the natural hair with opposite hand).

  • Brush your hair before you shower to minimize tangling and breakage.

Q - HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE?

A- This very much depends on your own hair type but ideally your own hair should be a minimum of 10cms long to get extensions installed. We recommend booking a FREE consultation with our in salon professionals.

Q - CAN I COLOR MY HAIR WITH EXTENSIONS?

A- Yes you can definitely color your hair but the bonds or tapes must be avoided if using bleach. We recommend coloring your hair shortly before having your hair extensions applied. Then, by the time your roots need retouching there will be enough space for your color technician to confidently touch up your regrowth without applying color to your hair extensions. It is recommend that you go into a salon to have any coloring done and preferably a salon with extension knowledge.

Q - CAN I SWIM IN WITH EXTENSIONS?

A- Yes, but you should avoid getting the hair/bonds wet as prolonged exposure to water/dampness will cause your bonds to soften, often resulting in excessive shedding of the extension hair. For best results wash and dry your hair immediately after swimming or wear a swimming cap is possible. We suggest putting your hair in a bun when swimming and trying to avoid getting your extensions wet. Avoid sunscreens at all costs. sunscreen can break down the extensions and can also change the color of the hair.

Q - CAN I EXERCISE WITH EXTENSIONS?

A- Of course you can still exercise and play sports when wearing hair extensions but we recommend tying your hair in a loose pony tail or plait and washing your hair immediately after exercising.

Q - CAN I REMOVE THE EXTENSIONS MYSELF?

A- We strongly advise against removing your own extensions as this can lead to your own hair being damaged. To avoid any damage we recommend you book an appointment and come into the salon to have your extensions removed. Removal of extensions which have been well maintained usually takes around 1 hour, However poorly maintained extensions may take longer if they are tangled or matted.

Q - HOW MUCH DO EXTENSIONS COST?

A- Great question and it definitely varies from client to client! Depending upon the method of extension and how many grams are required. We tell our clients the price is always depending on the consultation so our stylists can determine the price for you after discussing your hair goals and what will work best for you. We can give you a rough estimate but without a consult the price may vary on the day of install.

Q - WHAT HAPPENS AT THE CONSULT?

A- Extension consultations are complimentary and only take about 15 minutes! Your stylist will run through with you what your hair goals and needs are (for example, if you’re looking for volume or both volume and length). Then they will run through extension options with you and maintenance. From there, they will color match your natural hair to extension Shades we have available. If you wish to proceed then our Reception staff will take a deposit from you at the time of consultation and you will book in with your stylist for the installation.

Q - CAN I BRING MY OWN EXTENSIONS IN?

A- Long answer: No, because we cannot guarantee the integrity of any other hair extension manufacturer, we only work with and custom order top of the-line hair extensions that we have handpicked. We can only work with hair extensions that we can personally vouch for and have worked with.

Q - WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HUMAN AND SYNTHETIC HAIR?

A- 100% Human Hair Extensions have the ability to be curled, straightened, dyed, treated, or styled as if it were your own hair. It is the best choice if you are making an investment in hair extensions. Synthetic Hair Extensions can’t be styled using high heat and won’t last as long compared to human hair. They are also quite difficult to blend with natural hair and used as a one-time hair extension rather than long-term. At Halo Hair we only use 100% Human Remy hair extensions that we have hand picked from our own manufacturer.

Q - WHAT IS REMY HUMAN HAIR?

A- Cuticle Remy Hair is one of the highest grades of human hair available. Many people choose this for hair extensions as it achieves the natural look. It’s also known as one of the finest qualities of human hair, as the cuticles are intact and run in the same direction.

When we collect the hair from its donor, we tie the hair to preserve its direction. That way, it’s less likely to tangle. These types of hair extensions last longer and are easier to maintain, as it keeps both its shine and vitality. Our remy hair does not contain any synthetic fibres and it made of only the best 100% Human Russian hair.

Q - DO HAIR EXTENSIONS HURT?

A- The first few days after having hair extensions applied can feel a little uncomfortable, especially if it’s the first time you have used them. Just like anything new added to the body it can take a little time to get used too the extra weight however this will ease after 3-5 day. We recommend you take some panadol the day of your appointment. This may help with any tenderness you may experience.

Q - DO THE EXTENSIONS FALL OUT EASILY?

A- Tape In Extensions are the most secure type of professional extensions, when applied correctly they very rarely ever fall out in between applications. Keratin bond Extensions are a little less sturdy and you may lose 5-10  per month and this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.  Always avoid using conditioner or hair oil at the roots of your hair if wearing extensions as this can cause them to loosen and slip. Make sure you are following the aftercare instructions supplied by us. If you are losing more than 10 bonds per month get in contact with our team to discuss further.
